コロナの影響でスキー場オープンが心配される中、カナダのウィスラーブラッコムは、いち早くオープン日は11月26日（予定）を発表した。

Mark your calendars! Whistler Blackcomb is planning to open for winter on November 26th 🥳! We’ve been hard at work planning, preparing and dreaming about delivering you a great ski and ride season, focusing on three things: your safety, having a successful season start to finish, and prioritizing our pass holders. Today, we’re sharing our winter operating plan with opening dates and answers on everything from face coverings to loading lifts to dining on mountain. But the most important change is that for your safety, we will be managing mountain access this season with a new reservation system that gives pass holders priority access. We know this season will be different, but we want to give you peace of mind knowing you’ll have the space you need at our resort. 2020年3月中旬、まさにこれからスプリングシーズンを迎えるという矢先、コロナが襲ったカナダ。突然のスキー場クローズは、北米、ヨーロッパにも広がっていた。
あの日、僕たちはまさかこのままスキー場がクローズしたままになるとは思わなかったものだ。人はあまりにも突然のことが起きると、まるで津波が町を襲ってすべてを失ったかのように、何もできずに立ちすくむもの。

ウィスラーブラッコムの営業は、通常、ウィスラーの山が４月末にクローズし、ブラッコムが５月中旬まで営業。
それからブラッコムグレーシアでの夏スノーボーディングという流れで７月中旬まで営業するので、実際に滑れない期間というのは一年の内で４か月ほどである。しかし、今回コロナによる突然のクローズで７か月という長い間、クローズされることになった。

そんな中、今回、オープンが心配されていた中での「オープン宣言」は、「遂に来た！」感が高まる。

ウィスラーブラッコムは、事前に予約するシステムやリフトのオペレーティング方法、またレストハウスの利用方法など間もなく発表するという。
ウィズ・コロナ時代のウィスラー・スキー場の営業手腕に注視していきたい。
