Following on from the Nokia 180 Freeze Trampoline at the Burton Snowboard European Open http://nokia.ly/H9y8lD we headed out to the Burton US Open at Stratton Mountain, where for the first year ever Nokia awarded two up and coming riders with the Nokia Rookie Award.
The award was given to a male and female rider who demonstrated an outstanding performance in the halfpipe competition at the event. The winners personified the spirit of the Burton US Open by pushing their own personal limits and achieving outstanding results at the highest competitive level; with the opportunity to compete against the snowboarding elite such as Shaun White and Kelly Clark!
The Awards Committee judged the award by looking at a rider’s TTR ranking and scores, progressive riding and how far the rider advanced through the competition. Only those riders that had not previously being awarded a podium finish at any of the 5 or 6 Star TTR World Snowboard Tour events were eligible.
