Not everyone in the 80’s had a mullet, but it’s safe to say that over 80% of them did. Back then, snowboarding was all about making it down the hill in one piece with both feet in your bindings and getting above the lip in hand-dug halfpipes. Things are a little different these days, what with machine groomed superpipes, triple corks and all, but you have to start somewhere.

The 30th US Open of Snowboarding runs from March 7-10 at Stratton Mountain Vermont. Come and watch in person, or check out the live stream, either way it will be entertaining and history making.

Apparently there was more going on in the 90’s than Saved by the Bell the College Years and Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Freestyle snowboarding had taken over the US Open, gear was becoming more reliable, halfpipes were getting bigger and riding was getting more technical. More and more people were starting to turn out to watch the mayhem and progression of snowboarding.
