今朝は、ウィスラーのパトロールの仕事風景を紹介する動画、『The Wonder Reels, S2: The Eye Of The Storm』をご紹介しよう。
この動画エピソードである、The Wonder Reelsはウィスラーで定期的にリリースされていて、DMKの方でも毎回チェックしています。
内容の方は、北米最大リゾートのウィスラーで働く人たちなど、スキー場の裏舞台で活躍する人の姿をフューチャーするというものです。
スノーボードとは直接関係ない動画が多いので、これまで掲載を見送るケースがほとんどでしたが、今回のパトロールが活躍する姿はぜひ見てほしいなあ、と思いました。
ご存知のようにウィスラー、ブラッコムというのは北米では最大のスキー場で、その広さというのは日本で滑って来た方は想像はつかないほど。その広大なスキー場は、そのままバックカントリーのようなエリアも多くあり、そこで雪崩が起きないように管理するのは大変なことです。しかも、降雪量が多いウィスラーではパトロールは常に、雪崩に気を配らないといけません。その雪崩をコントロールする１つの方法が、ダイナマイトの設置ですが、彼らはシーズン中はまだ日も登らない暗い時間帯から仕事をしています。みんなが楽しんでいるスキー場の裏にはこういう人がいるからだ、ということも知ってもらいたくて、ご紹介します！
